Social Imagination

1. I think collaborating with your collegues and other teachers in your school with art-infused curriculum is really important. I hope to collaborate with my future teachers by connecting big ideas with curriculum units in their classes to allow students to make personal connections with the material being taught. As the reading said, "it brings inquiry and choices for learning". I also enjoyed this quote, "The arts nature wonder and imagination." We can show others how much students can benefit from working in the arts.

2. By encouraging student voice, it teachings them how to stand up for what they believe in and not to be afraid of sharing their opinion. If you create a "safe space"for students to express themselves, then they will be more open to speaking their voice. Students become comfortable and start to understand and gain respect for each other. In the reading when Samir was able to share his perspective and culture with his classmates, he was able to speak his voice and communicate through art. Art can break traditional barriers students can sometimes face.

3.
-I wonder how I can encourage my students to think critically and creatively.
-I wonder how I can collaborate effectively with teachers to bring more art-infused learning into their classrooms.
-I wonder if we, as future educators, can shift the arts from peripheral to the center of learning.
-I wonder if I can foster better discussion for my students to feel comfortable enough to contribute their voice and opinions.

  1. Abby,
I like how you mentioned connecting big ideas to curriculum in other classes. I think that this can help students and educators see how art can enhance learning in all areas. Art can help foster student skills in imagination and communication that are valuable in all fields, not just in the art room.

  2. Abby,
I really liked how you said " art can break traditional barriers students sometimes face". I agree, art is a great way of communication. It gives students the voice that they may otherwise be afraid to share. I really enjoyed your poster and I find myself wondering these things as well. But I think its important to keep these wonderings in mind and strive to achieve the goals when creating the lessons.

  3. Abby,
I agree with wanting to connect with other teachers in the building. Im just nervous as to how they will take it. I hope that they will welcome it with open arm and be willing to learn how it can benefit the students in the long run. I love what you said about "safe space". This term get brought up in almost everyone of our post. I believe it is really important
